Fruitfully Fabulous - Holidays
Warm up your holiday table with a sensational holiday centerpiece dress pillar candles with dried oranges, lemons, and limes.

Thinly slice the citrus fruits about 1/8-inch thick. Place a wire cooling rack on a cookie sheet, and then arrange the sliced oranges, lemons, and limes on the rack. Put the cookie sheet and rack in an oven preheated to 250 degrees for approximately two hours, or until all moisture is removed.

Tip: If you find that your slices have not dried in 2 hours, you can also turn off the oven and leave the fruit in overnight.

Using a glue gun, connect the citrus slices to each other, forming a band around the base of each candle. Do not glue them to the candle. Once your candles are decorated, cluster them in the center of your Thanksgiving holiday table and weave berried branches throughout to create a cohesive centerpiece.

Nuts about- Seasonal Holiday Candles
Rummage through your cupboards, attic, and garage, and pull out all of your glass containers, hurricane lamps, vases, glasses, and stemware. The different shapes and sizes will give your tablescape an interesting topography for the holidays.

Make sure the glasses are sparkling clean without any trace of fingerprints. Depending on the size of each container, place either a pillar, votive, or tapered candle into each glass. Fill with hazelnuts, walnuts, or pecans. Stagger the amount of nuts in each container.

Tip: This is the season where you can find unshelled nuts quite easily in the produce section of your local market.

Once your dinner is over, you can pour all of the nuts into one big bowl for everyone to enjoy while watching the football game. Don't forget to supply nutcrackers!

Autumn - Thanksgiving Holidays
Take advantage of nature's bounty to create a beautiful Thanksgiving holiday centerpiece. Collect branches and berries from your backyard and mix with dried flowers. Add an assortment of colorful leafy sprigs to bring texture and vibrancy to your arrangement.

Build your arrangement horizontally wide and low instead of vertically. This will allow conversation to flow easily across your Thanksgiving table without guests having to peer between the branches.

Start your thanksgiving holiday arrangement by interlacing the branches in your basket to form the foundation and structure for your centerpiece. Place the rest of your dried flowers in your basket, anchoring them in the interlaced branches. Don't worry about following any set pattern. Use nature as your guide to create a bountiful and wild composition.

Tip: You can make this holiday thanksgiving harvest centerpiece days in advance, as water is not necessary to keep it beautiful.

Outdoor Seasonal Holiday Decorating

Outdoor Front Porch Seasonal Holiday Decorating

The simplest of natural touches on your front porch can create a festive welcome for holiday guests. Choose a spacious galvanized pail to house an assortment of fresh cuttings, such as fountain grass, golden Hinoki cypress, and glossy-leaf Oregon grape holly that will last all season.

Seasonal Outdoor Window Box Greenery
Winter is a great time to explore all the color that evergreens have to offer. This window box displays at least six different varieties accented with pinecones and multicolor foliage. Add a seasonal accent to the bright red container with bits of evergreen tucked under birch logs along the edge.

Holiday Hanging Basket
Many people put away hanging baskets when wintertime arrives, but with a little creative flair, these summertime standbys can deftly transition into winter. The key for this outdoor decoration is to include texture and hues for visual variety. Use several kinds of evergreens to offer both light and dark shades of green, and add yellow berries for an unexpected pop of color in the arrangement.

Holiday Snowy Sled Display

When not cruising the snow-covered hills, an old sled embellished with pine sprigs, pinecones, and fruit does double duty as a welcoming holiday decoration next to the front door.

Exterior Christmas Potted Frasier Fir
Dress up your exterior for Christmas with winter containers filled with evergreens and natural bursts of color. Make a potted Frasier fir Merry with a combination of pretty garden items, such as dried artichokes, pear gourds, dyed eucalyptus, Caspian, actable seed pods, dried hydrangea blooms, and a pinecone garland.

Christmas Holiday Fir-Filled Vintage Wheelbarrow
A front porch container overflowing with evergreens and winter plants adds a charming country Christmas ambiance to your entryway. Fill a vintage wheelbarrow with wintry noble fir branches. Accent the display with Port Or ford cedar, dried eucalyptus, and winter berry holly. Park them on your front porch for a homespun holiday welcome.

Decorate An Inviting Holiday Mailbox

Prepare a Merry welcome at the curb a pretty swag of pine tied on with wire adds a flourish to your mailbox. Enhance it with red accents and pretty pine cones. The first snow will only enhance the look.

Holiday Event Open Home Style

  • It’s all in the timing stick to a time frame for a holiday event open home style. A three-hour window is perfect during the holiday season, either in the evening or afternoon. Keep in mind that an afternoon event will probably draw more people for two reasons: there aren't as many daytime party conflicts, and adults will bring their children. Plan quantities accordingly.
  • Portion control  have one or two substantial holiday items to offer the guests who plan on hanging out for a while, plus nibble snacks for those who are holiday event party hopping.
  • Bring on tradition Chances are that your holiday open home will become an annual event, so throw in a tradition and guests will relish from year to year, like carol sing-along, signature drink, cookie exchange or secret Santa grab bag.
  • Christmas clarity let guests know what to expect.  Be very clear on what your menu includes ex. your drinks, desserts etc. so that everyone can prepare and eat accordingly.

Harvest-Inspired Fall Front Entry Decorating
Let the natural elements of a fall harvest decorating inspire your front entry decorations for the season. Stuff the bottoms of vintage harvest baskets with newspaper and fill them with fresh apples. Attach dried cornstalks to porch posts with wire hidden under burlap, then use Indian corn, gourds, and vintage rakes and pitchforks to add to the harvest inspired fall theme. Pots of red mums and red fall leaves add vibrant color, straw bales add layered height, and the front door wreath a head of kale surrounded by faux apples, seedpods, and leaves secured with florist's wire to a foam base brings the natural look together.

Decorate Using A Natural Fall Wreath

Use muted colors and natural elements to decorate your fall front entry with a classic and easy-to-achieve look. Accent your front door with a store-bought square magnolia wreath and embellish with twigs, seedpods, nuts, berries, wheat, and leaves, securing them to the wreath using florist's wire.

Fall Decorating Services

Outdoor Colorful Fall Porch
Take a color scheme through the season decorating with pretty, inexpensive fall accents. Outdoor pillows add pick-me-up to a porch swing while a small throw rug keeps the palette going. Make a simple table by sandwiching two colorful tubs between slabs of wood. We added wheels to the base board to make it mobile.

Your Homes Entry with Mums and White Pumpkins

Give your home a symmetrical look outside by incorporating overflowing potted mums and pumpkins, plus a pretty wreath. Place two pots of burnt orange mums on every other step and line with simple white pumpkins. Hanging planters and Chinese lanterns is an easy way to finish the autumnal look.

Decorative Fall Urn
This gorgeous arrangement is freewheeling and creative perfection not required. Build a mound of cut plastic florist's foam pieces inside a plastic urn. Cover with Spanish moss (available at crafts stores), keeping the moss in place with green pins. Make a collar of burlap around the urn and build your arrangement with artificial leaves, berries, Chinese lanterns, dried lotus pods, and other fall decorating favorites from the floral selection of your local crafts store. Green pins help keep everything in place.

Fall Wreath and Natural Elements
A full and flush front entryway doesn't need much to give it a hint of fall. Large pumpkins do the trick in turning your front porch into an autumnal paradise. Pick a few bright and hefty pumpkins and place them on your front step. Add a seasonal wreath that complements your door and voila! You have a gorgeous fall entry.

Christmas Tree Decorating - Star Power

To get the red-and-white palette to pop, a blue spruce is trimmed with touches of turquoise and teal. Topping it all off: a handcrafted wrapping paper star.
First gather a printout of the star point template, stiff paper (e.g., two manila folders, poster board), leftover wrapping paper of your choice (we chose stripes, but anything goes), double-stick tape, spray adhesive, scissors, and an X-Acto knife. Cut out the star point with your knife; use a ruler to keep your lines straight. Tape the template onto your stiff paper, use your knife to cut it out; repeat until you have five of these "points" cut from the stiff paper.
To cover your star points with the gift wrap, trace each cutout piece onto the backside of your wrapping paper; cut out the shape but about 1/2" wider all the way around. Use spray adhesive to adhere the patterned paper; trim away any excess with your knife. Fold the star and crease down the center with the pattern on the outside, making sure to fold the tab as seen on the template from the front to back.
Repeat this step with all five star points. Lay all points out in a star formation, then cover all tabs with double-stick tape. Tape the five points together, making sure to align the tabs, to form your star; work it so it takes on a 3D shape. Christmas Tree Decorating with Star Power.

Sweet Holiday Christmas Touches

Sugar cookies iced and decorated with fanciful food-coloring flourishes  mimic melt in your mouth candies.
Make Sugar Cookie Cutouts, cutting the dough into circles of various sizes. Make Ornamental Frosting, and stir in 1/8 teaspoon of peppermint extract. Place one third of the frosting in a bowl, and tint with Christmas Red food-color paste.
To prevent the frosting from drying out, cover surfaces with plastic wrap until ready to use. Fit a pastry bag or re-sealable plastic bag with a small writing tip. Fill with a quarter of the white frosting. Pipe outlines around the edges of the cookies and let dry. Thin the remaining white frosting by stirring in a little water until the consistency is similar to thick paint. Transfer the red frosting to a pastry bag (or re-sealable plastic bag) fitted with a small writing tip. Place the thinned white frosting in another pastry bag (or re-sealable plastic bag with a 1/2 tip or opening). Squeeze the frosting into the outlined area, and spread with a small offset spatula. While the white frosting is still wet, pipe a series of dots or parallel, curved or crisscrossing lines with the red frosting.
Then, working quickly (before the frosting dries) draw a toothpick through the lines to make a second set of squally spaced lines, perpendicular to the first set, a set of lines at an angle to the first set of lines, or a series of swirls. Wipe the toothpick clean after drawing each line to ensure a neat appearance for the next line. For the small starburst mint designs, let the white frosting harden completely. Pipe a series of evenly spaced dots around the edge of the small cookies. Using a small paintbrush began to paint the dots into small triangles.

Christmas - Bough Wows for the Holiday

Christmas Rosettes (Pictured at top) With a bright blue button and a few fast folds, fabric ribbons turn into these charming Christmas rosettes.
For each ornament you’ll need: 1 1/2" ribbon cut to 17” length, a to-scale felt disc (cut from sheets of felt), a button of your choice, a short length of 1/8" ribbon (to loop as the ornament hanger), double-stick tape, a stapler, and hot glue gun. Lay out the 1 1/2" ribbon right side up, and attach tape along the entire top edge. Starting at the left end, fold the ribbon at a slight angle in 1/2" increments, making sure to keep the center tight while flaring out the edges — this is how you make a circle; the tape keeps it intact.
When you’ve completed the circle, secure the ends with a stapler. Next, grab a felt disc, and glue it to the front center. Affix a cute button on top of the felt, and attach thin ribbon loop to the back to hang.

Christmas Cut-outs

(Pictured in center) Decked out in a dainty dot print, favorite holiday cookie cutters can double as decor. All you do: Trace the cutter onto patterned wrapping paper, snip out the shape, and attach in back with clear tape.
Christmas - Door Bell

This crisp peppermint wreath will keep guests knocking all season long. From a crafts store, purchase a 2" thick Styrofoam sheet, a heated Styrofoam cutter, and roughly 3" wide outdoor Christmas ribbon in a red and white stripe. Draw out a 16" square wreath shape with slightly rounded corners; use your heated Styrofoam cutter to cut the wreath to size. Cut out the center of the wreath, keeping the all-around width at 3.5".

Cut four individual lengths of ribbon each one long enough to wrap around the front and sides of the wreath and use pins to securely fasten in place (on the back side of the wreath). Overlap each piece as you go until the entire Styrofoam wreath is covered in ribbon. Add a white ribbon bow and top the whole thing off with a sprig of evergreen, if you like.

Holiday Decorating

The grasscloth wallpaper and cool slate fireplace in this living room dictated a natural holiday palette with warm colors and nubby textures. Burlap unifies the look, with homespun stockings on the mantel, an oversize bow topping the Christmas tree, and gifts wrapped in the woven material. Cool mercury glass ornaments add a touch of shimmer.

Grasscloth Wallpaper

The natural shades of grasscloth wallpaper are the perfect backdrop for an organic holiday decorating scheme. Grasscloth texture adds a sense of warmth to a room. Try painting window trim and molding a rich color to add interest.

Striped Flat-Weave Rug

Flat weave cotton rugs are as durable as they are affordable – they’re easy to maintain, so a small investment will go a long way. Stripes work well in both traditional and modern settings. This rug’s brown tones set a warm tone.

Modern Wing Chair

During the holidays try a contemporary spin on a very traditional shape. An angular wing chair, with clean lines and simple squared legs, is both sleek and classic. William Sonoma Home’s version comes in your choice of faux suede, velvet, or linen upholstery.

Burlap Stockings

Try your hand at DIY Christmas decorations. This room’s homespun stockings are easy to make with inexpensive burlap fabric and humble twine. One yard of fabric yields about 2 large stockings, and you’ll also need a needle with an extra-large eye.

Large-Scale Vintage Wheel

Instead of artwork above the mantel, add a sense of dimension with a large wheel. For a holiday touch, try lacing the wheel with simple cypress garland.

Woven Basket Christmas Tree -Holder

The woven raffia basket at the base of the Christmas tree is wide enough to fit a standard tree stand, and tall enough to obscure the tree trunk. The basket’s height lifts the branches and clears lots of room at the base of the Christmas tree for gifts.

Mercury Glass Holiday Ornaments

Add a bit of subtle shimmer to the neutral Christmas tree with silvery-gray mercury glass ornaments in various sizes. Antique mercury glass can be pricey, but this set is available for a song.

Delicate Snowflake Ornaments

The white snowflake ornaments are a nod to winter and a graphic touch to the tree décor. Save a few to tie-on to presents or bottles of wine to bring to holiday dinner parties.

Bronze Gift Wrap

In addition to basic craft paper and solid white wrap, incorporate shades of bronze and silver into your packaging. A bit of sheen will keep your gifts from looking dull.

Wraphia Ribbon

Use this sturdy ribbon to hang ornaments to the Christmas tree and to tie up gift packages. A 100-yard roll will certainly last throughout the holiday season.

Affordable Holiday Home Decorating

Holidays are supposed to be fun especially the Christmas season. But more often than not, handling home duties, work and holiday planning this mountain is one we rather not climb. Every year, we say next year will be different. Believe it or not, the holidays can be stress free but this will require a little work.  Here are some Holiday Tips to help you sail into the holiday season.

Ten Stress Free Tips to enjoy the Holiday Season in your home.

1. Stay organized during the holiday season
Make lists for groceries, people to shop for, cards to write, decorations to buy for home decorating. Place a calendar and give yourself target dates for getting things done. It will make a busy holiday month more reasonable.

2. Less can be more during the holidays
Don’t be frugal about it. But simple holiday decorations can speak volumes more than a room crowded with all kinds of knick-knacks. When it comes to menu-planning, don't get too ambitious. Choose holiday food recipes that are tried and true to avoid the stress of an uncertain outcome. Most people complain about overeating during the holidays, a small selection of quality foods will be perfect.

3. Share Holiday Hosting Party Duties
The great amount of holiday parties and conflicts in peoples' schedules co-host a holiday party with a friend. Its one engagement for your friends instead of two, and it'll reduce your stress.

4. Prepare your Holiday items ahead of time
Choose holiday menu items that can be frozen until the day you need them. This will cut down on the number of things you need to do on the day of your event.

5. Holiday Cookie Trade
Organize a circle of friends and have everyone make two to three dozen of their favorite holiday cookie, bar or square. Then get together and exchange then everyone has a little of each. It saves you hours in the kitchen and comes in handy when people drop by unexpectedly. A few samples wrapped in cellophane also make great hostess gifts.

6. Holiday Decorated- colored potpourri
It's an easy design accent and makes the home smell like someone's always baking. If you're not into potpourri, scented candles and oils will give you the same results. Remember when you feel the holiday stress grasping, stop and take a deep breath. Warm scents like lavender or cinnamon will relax you.

7. Simple holiday decorations
You'll find a great amount of Christmas decorations in the stores. Usually the most elegant and effective are those you make yourself. Get the kids to help. Use branches, leaves, acorns and berries from your backyard to create centerpieces or festive confetti that can be spread across fireplace mantles and tables.

8. Colorful holiday concepts
Purchase a few yards of fabric in vibrant colors or textures and use them as table runners or chair covers. Patterned ribbons are also an inexpensive way to dress up candle holders and serving utensils. Or use them as festive napkin holders.

9. Get Housework Help
The holiday season is a good time for a cleaning service. If you already have one, you may want to arrange for an extra visit.

10. Include the kids
Kids love the holidays and they can help decorate everything from cookies to rooms.

Easy - Fall Holiday Seasonal Decorating

These fall seasonal holiday decorating ideas include several no-hassle projects that are full of fall textures and colors. We love to share wonderful seasonal holiday decorating ideas from Better Homes & Gardens.

Twist on Traditional Decorating

Festive tablescape sets the scene for fall holiday entertaining. Give your typical tableaux a twist by incorporating a non-fall color. Here, the bright sky blue plate breaks up the rich reds and vibrant oranges typically used in fall decorating. Try pairing plum or Bordeaux hues with golden yellows or sage or olive greens with chocolate browns.

Fall Tablescapes decorating for holiday entertaining

Embrace the bounty of beautiful fall colors with a seasonal tablescape. The star of this table is a stunning arrangement of late-blooming flowers mixed with bold red-orange leaves. Small gourds and pumpkins are also randomly placed around the table, creating a laid-back vibe perfect for fall entertaining.

Festive Seasonal Dishware

One of the easiest ways to bring a touch of fall character into your home is through dishware and table linens. This pretty table setting features fall favorite hues, including pumpkin oranges, maple reds, and straw yellows. A tiny gourd topped with an oversize bow functions as a festive place card. The gingham-print bow and napkin tie together all of the colors and add a splash of seasonal pattern.

Leafy Table Runner

Easily transform an ordinary table runner into playful fall decor using nothing more than felt and hot glue. Purchase felt in autumn-inspired colors from your local crafts store. Trace different sizes of leaves and twigs onto the felt, cut them out, and place the pieces in a pleasing pattern onto the table runner. Adhere the twigs onto the surface first using a hot-glue gun to ensure correct placement of the leaves. Then glue down each leaf onto the top of one of the tiny twigs. The r
esult is a festive table runner perfectly suited to fall entertaining & holiday events.

Natural Beauty

Creating a bold centerpiece can be done on a dime. In fact, you can re-create this fall seasonal arrangement by just stepping outside. Simply comb your backyard for fallen leafy twigs and place the collection in a wide vase filled with water. Natural imperfections
in the leaves, such as tiny holes or rumpled edges, add texture and create an authentic natural look.

Festive Furniture

Dress up your furniture with cozy items in seasonal colors. Here, a wicker chair is draped with a warm orange throw, and a maple leaf pillow sits comfortably on top. Perk up a plain pillow by enlarging a leaf using a copier to make a pattern. Cut the pattern out of wool felt and attach it to the pillow cover using iron-on fusible backing. Blanket-stitch around the edges.

Seasonal Shelf Display

Fill old jars with fall berries to bring the colors of fall to any shelf in your home. Comb your lawn for fallen branches or snip a collection of twigs off of a nearby tree and place a couple in each jar, scattering a few berry sprays along the surface of the mantel. Tiny white gourds add another dimension of seasonal decorating textures.

Bookcase Beauty

Transform your everyday bookshelf into an fall display with a few simple tweaks. First, to create a consistent and graphic look, cover books with festive paper -- we love these tree- and floral-inspired prints. Then incorporate natural elements and accessories in fall hues.

Bookshelf Scenario

Artfully arrange fall decorating items on a bookshelf or in an open cabinet. Put platters on their sides, fill vases with colorful flowers, and pile bowls with mini gourds to create a diverse display. Try heaping small items, such as acorns, bright berries, and sweet gum seedpods, into glass bowls. Adhere a dried fern frond to a platter with spray adhesive to embellish a simple plate.
